Mottled Houdan Chickens for sale

$15.00

The Mottled Houdan is sure to be the life of your backyard coop. This breed originated in France and is also known as a “French Hen.” Flaunting a spectacular full crest, muffs and beard this unique five-toed white egg layer is ideal for show or as a pet. Its large crest impairs it’s vision a bit, therefore free range is not recommended where predators are an issue. Mottled Houdans are ideal as a backyard pet and or show bird due to its stunning appearance and docile personality. Houdans lay 3-5 white eggs on average each week.

Houdans are a froofy French breed, just like their cousins the Crevecoeurs. They’re also related to the Polish breed of chicken. Just like Polish and Crevecoeurs, Houdans are crested with fluffy ‘dos and have a V-shaped comb. Houdans are unique, however, in having 5 toes and a beard.
White egg layers, Houdans are considered very docile and amenable to confinement—since they can’t see super well, after all! They’re also efficient in terms of food eaten to egg ratio. They’re rarely kept, so yours is bound to be the talk of the town.
